Speech therapy service portfolio:
Speech therapy focused on children is mainly known for treating problems that affect speech (ex: problems saying the r). However, it encompasses much more, such as the prevention of problems with communication, language, voice, hearing, as well as associated functions such as breathing, chewing and swallowing.
In the event that parents or teachers detect alterations in any of the areas described, it is important to refer to speech therapy, in order to prevent or identify any problem.
- Problems we treat:
- Speech disorders: language delay, articulation problems, stuttering.
- Voice disorders: infantile dysphonia.
- Language and communication disorders: Specific Language Impairment (SLI).
- Learning disorders (dyslexia, dysgraphia – reading and writing problems) – Orton-Gillingham Method
- Atypical swallowing
We spend most of our time communicating. Be it talking to others, writing, listening and even reading, so we are frequently involved in activities that require a high cognitive and linguistic load.
The understanding and use of language can seem an easy process at first sight and even innate. However, this is not the case for people with speech or language disorders, where these abilities are greatly affected. As it can be after a stroke or a neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s.
Neurologic Speech Therapy helps people in this situation to enhance their language, communication and speech skills, starting from their strengths. Which leads to an improvement in quality of life and self-confidence.
We provide services aimed at:
- Stimulate comprehensive and expressive language.
- Stimulate cognitive abilities.
- Improve functioning in activities of daily living.
Reducing or minimizing the accent is a realistic goal. Let’s first examine why accents exist. Each cultural group (speakers from India, Russia or Spanish countries, for example) has its own way of speaking. Such a pattern of conversation is known as intonation.
When someone learns a new language, their intonation style tends to be that of their first language. The first skill that will be learned in your online accent reduction class is how to speak the language you want to improve in the cultural style of native speakers. Speaking a language in native intonation style is the first and most important step in a successful accent reduction training class.
We help you:
- Improve your accent
You will learn about the morphologies and movements of the mouth that are unique to the American and Spanish dialect. In our sessions, we not only ask you to repeat the sounds, but we teach you exactly how to make them. - Improve your pronunciation
Native speakers have a distinctive rhythm due to a combination of pauses and reductions. This skill is essential to achieve fluency when speaking. - Being understood in a conversation
When learning a second language, there is often a tendency to use a wide variety of speech patterns that may seem foreign to native speakers. During sessions, we can help you understand these potential areas of difficulty. - Speak confidently
You will learn a wide variety of intonations that will help you convey the message according to what you want to express.
During the initial session we will answer your questions: which language first and when? When should I start introducing a second language, or a third? should I learn to read and write in both? How to start?
In order to provide a personalized service, days before the appointment, we will send you a questionnaire in which we will collect all the necessary information to better understand the family circumstances. In this way, at the time of the consultation we can design an action plan in order to achieve balanced bilingualism.
We offer monolingual and bilingual evaluations for children and adults.
In the case of children, the evaluation is focused on determining if there is a problem in early development, specific to language or learning, both oral and written, as well as swallowing.
At older ages, this assessment consists of determining if there is any underlying language or learning problem that has gone unnoticed, as well as voice difficulties and even neurodegenerative diseases.
Our evaluation services include:
- Speech and language
- Diet
- Voice
- Psychoeducational aspects
Our goal is to accurately identify the strengths and needs of our clients, using a holistic and dynamic approach. We merge the most current evidence-based practice, using standardized and non-standardized measures.
We offer psychoeducational evaluations for schools, colleges and universities.
The process consists of a first clinical interview in which we will collect the necessary information and advise you on the type of evaluation that best suits your case, thus giving you a budget.
Once the budget is accepted, we will start the evaluation process in which we schedule appointments with two specialized professionals. The time of the evaluation sessions will also be informed to you in the first interview.
After completing the evaluation, both professionals will meet with you to explain the results obtained, as well as recommendations and/or accommodations for exams. And finally, deliver the report.
